Ten Easy Steps to Professional-Quality Application
1. Patch the area you’re going to texture. (For detailed instructions
on patching, click here.)
Sand it smooth and wipe any dust away.
2. Make sure to use drop cloths or tape to protect areas like carpet or furniture
from any overspray that may occur during application.
3. Shake can well. If can seems cold, warm it up by running it under warm
water for about a minute. This helps loosen up the compound and helps ensure
an even spray.
4. Remove cap and adjust the patented Dial-A-Texture nozzle to achieve desired
texture. As you tighten the nozzle, the texture will get heavier. As you loosen
the nozzle, the texture gets lighter. Always keep nozzle pointed away from
your face.
5. Hold can about 15 to 20 inches away from the wall. Spray using a circular
motion over the patch area.
7. For Knockdown, allow the texture to get tacky, which generally takes just
a couple of minutes. With a wet putty knife, gently glide knife over the peaks
of the texture to flatten it. Hold knife at about a 45° angle for best
results. Allow about one to four hours dry time. Click
here to view detailed instructions for Knockdown.
8. Remember, the lighter the spray, the more coverage you’ll get from
the can.
9. Paint! Your patch will have virtually disappeared.
10. For easy cleanup, twist the nozzle off the can and clean with water. Do
not turn can upside down and spray to clean nozzle. Spraytex textures clean
up with water, even when they’re dry.
